The Breeders' Cup Classic has been run since 1984 and is considered to be one of the premier horse races in the United States. Countless champion racehorses have etched their name in Breeders' Cup history by winning this race. Of all of them, who is your favorite?
I have loved so many of the Breeders' Cup Classic winners that this is a very hard question for me to answer. After a lot of thought, I decided that my favorite Breeders' Cup Classic winner isn't a horse I followed or felt a huge connection to. Rather, it is a horse who won the race before I was even alive to see it! My favorite BC Classic winner is Arcangues, the French racehorse who won the race at odds of 133-1 in 1993. The Classic was Arcangues' first start on dirt and his first start outside of Europe. To the disbelief of the crowd and the bettors, American jockey Jerry Bailey was able squeeze his European mount through horses at the top of the stretch to win easily. It's truly a great race to watch!
