Horse racing used to be one of the biggest sports in America. These days, unfortunately, horse racing has been fading from the public eye. Though racetracks can still draw crowds, horse racing news no longer makes the front page of newspapers in most cities. Most people you see walking down the street can't tell you the name of the previous year's Breeders' Cup Classic winner.
There are plenty of things us horse racing fans can do to help create more racing fans. What are things you think the average fan can do to inspire the love of the sport in someone else?
Here are some of my ideas:
* Bring your friends on horse racing adventures: Taking your non-racing friends and family to the racetrack, to stud farms, or to museums could help them gain interest in the sport. Know what your friend likes and use that to encourage them to tag along with you. Does your friend like gambling? Tell them about the joys of betting at the racetrack. Does your friend love to dress up and socialize? Dress up and take them to a big racing event! Does your friend just love animals? Take them on a farm tour where they can get up close (and maybe even personal with these horses).
* Share photos, videos, and stories: Okay, no one wants their timeline filled with something they know nothing about. It can easily create an annoyance. However, sharing a photo or video posted by another page or from your own collection can bring the sport to the eyes and minds of people who never even think about it.
Again, please share your ideas! I would love to hear them and they can inspire someone else to take action!
I always talk up racing at work, and try to get people to go to the track as much as possible! And in general, I talk about it endlessly :)
