In The Press: Quality Road

Quality Road at Lane's End Farm. 6.14.19

“Watching the replay it looked awesome, it felt awesome. It was just awesome. Down the lane I wanted to make sure I encouraged him to finish because up until then I hadn’t really done much with him. He started to look round a bit, so I tapped him with the whip to encourage him a little and he just drew away from everybody.” - Jockey John Velazquez on Quality Road’s 2010 Donn Handicap win, BloodHorse, Feb. 6, 2010

“He’s such a versatile horse. He set a track record at Saratoga at 6 ½ furlongs and two track records at Gulfstream at 1 1/8 miles, and he showed today he’s a brilliant miler. He took the race to everyone and kept on. Just brilliant.” - Trainer Todd Pletcher after Quality Road’s 2010 Met Mile win, BloodHorse, May 31, 2010

“And then down the lane I just wanted to keep him focused, because once he gets to the lead he sometimes he gets lazy. I guess he's older and smarter because he thinks he's done once he gets to the lead. But overall, he did it well.” - Jockey John Velazquez on Quality Road’s 2010 Woodward win, BloodHorse, Sept. 4, 2010

Perhaps Quality Road raised eyebrows with his appearance at the top of the stallion list, but this horse has a history of sneaking up on you, beginning at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale when he failed to bring his reserve at $110,000. The scopey colt went back to Virginia for his breeder, Edward P. “Ned” Evans, and into training.” - Robert D. Fierro, BloodHorse, Aug. 4, 2017

“His number of Grade I winners through five crops is approaching what some of the truly great stallions achieved to start–Danzig, Storm Cat, Galileo. He’s in the same conversation…He gets early horses, he gets Classic horses. He’s just an exceptional sire.” - Lane’s End Bill Farrish, Thoroughbred Daily News, Oct. 9, 2018
