Brilliant Berti continues to shine at Churchill Downs.
The four-year-old colt won the biggest race of his career thus far, the $500,000 Wise Dan Stakes (G2), at the Louisville, Kentucky track on Saturday, marking his fifth win from six races under the under the Twin Spires. This victory was extra special, as Brilliant Berti received his early education from Charles and Amy LoPresti, who trained the race’s namesake, Wise Dan, during his Hall of Fame career.
With Brian Hernandez Jr. in the irons, Brilliant Berti won the Wise Dan (G2) by three-quarters of a length over his Cherie DeVaux stablemate, Taking Candy. The colt's only loss at Churchill Downs came just one start ago in the Arlington Stakes (G2), where he finished a neck behind Mercante.
Owner Klein Racing bred Brilliant Berti in Kentucky out of the multiple stakes-winning, graded-placed mare Believe In Bertie (Langfuhr). His sire, Noble Mission, is a multiple Group 1 winning full-brother to the outstanding racehorse and sire Frankel. DeVaux also trains Believe In Berti's half-sister, a three-year-old filly by Kantharos named Hey Bertie, who has one stakes-placing and two wins in four starts.
In all, Brilliant Berti has earned $2.17 million from a record of 11: 7-2-0. We look forward to seeing what comes next for this turf star!
